Emily Perez gives me a mention in her review (in the latest Latino Poetry Review )of MiPO's American Cuban Issue, edited by Emma Trelles.'I heard Susanne Frishkorn read at the fantastic event co-organized by Rich Villar at Hunter College during AWP in early 2008, and I have been looking forward to reading her book, Lit Windowpane. Thus I was excited to come across four of her poems, "Letra," "Samhain," "What it Means to be Cuban, Hyphenated," and "Clerestory Sky." Her poems are full of questions, and she lets the questions linger and create more space within the poems. Her poem "Samhain," is structured in a question/answer format, though the answers are slippery, addressing each discursive moment with a surprising image.....Though her ideas can be elusive, her adept use of questions allow the reader to enter the poem alongside the questioning speaker, resulting in a feeling of affinity and empathy.'
