Why are there so many haters in poetry world?
______
I should add that I'm asking because I've seen so many nasty comments on other blogs, as well as snide comments in blogs. That's not even taking account of all the live stuff I've witnessed. Am I the only one that gets depressed by this mean spirited junk?
______
The good news? Oliver's got my back. Ha!

Isn't the better question:
Why are there so many haters in the world?
No. I specifically want to know about poetry world and its proliferation of haters.
Someone hating on you? If you want, I can kick their butts.
I'm not sure I know what you mean. I don't know anyone who is a hater, poetry or otherwise. People don't get along occasionally and there are temper tantrums or flare-ups, but genuine hate?
Oliver,
Nah, but I'll be sure to tell you if anyone does--*lol* Thank you.
Steve,
Haters = slang.
Courtesy of the urban dictionary:
Haters
People that make up reasons to hate certain people just because they aren't as wealthy or successfull as them.
OH! So you're talking about all the poets who look down their noses at Billy Collins--okay, so they sneer at him? I'm not a hater. I'm a lover. I love Billy.
I should've asked the question Steve asked because I wasn't sure what you meant either by "haters".
So, are you speaking of a specific poet? I know I said I wasn't fond of Mary Oliver over on Paul's blog but I chalk that up to personal space. I certainly don't begrudge her her success. I figure she's just not my cup of tea--and that may change some day. My taste in poetry and all things is ever-changing.
Sigh...
that's personal TASTE not space....
wonder what that Freudian slippage means...
And OH, or should I say DOH!! this time. I think I know what this is in reference to. This hater question relates back to that nastiness posted on C Dale's blog, right? Honestly, that gave me a moemnt's pause when I read that.
Are people really that petty, that catty, that small?
I'm 80% lover and 20% hater.
It might only seem like so many haters for their shouting.
Remember--lovers whisper. :P
Ooooh, it's so good to see so many lovers in one place. This is now the official Love Blog. ;-)
Laurel,
No, I'm not referring to any blog in particular, but just cumulative stuff over the years I've noticed.
And hey, are you talking sh*t about my girl, Mary? None of that now, not here on the Love Blog, got it? Mary's my homegirl. :-)
I don't know - I am constantly amazed by the goodness and encouragement of the people on my blogroll, including you! How many wonderful writers are out there, writing positive things to each other in cyberspace, when we might never have met? The "playa haters" are few and far between, I think, thankfully. Or maybe the haters just haven't made their way to my blog yet...it could be that the girl with the gun scares them away...
I'm with Charles: I'm a lover not a hater.
But I know what you mean about the occassional mean-spirited post, or down-right flame post. It's usually anonymous.
Hmmm. Like bad behavior in your five-year old? Best thing to do is ignore it.
J, thank you for reminding me and bringing me back to reality. You're so right. I've made so many poet friends online (at least six of them live in Washington state, hmmm)and the positive vibe is much stronger than the negative one. I'm shaking this surly girl stuff off and will focus on the love. :-)
Peter,
The voice of reason! You're right I shouldn't be bringing any attention to this negative behavior, although I have to admit I'm relieved that you understood what I meant--I was starting to feel a little, uh, insane for a minute there. :-)
Late as usual, but still got 2 cents in my pocket, so:
People are difficult, and love themselves. Or want to, and its your fault they can't, is how it feels to them, probably. Beyond that, I can't say it makes sense to me. Maybe they just lose perspective.
Stuart: I think you are on to something. May I quote you?
Aaaah, that's a great way of looking at it, Stuart, thanks!
Please, quote at will.
