I've been courting a poem and not just any poem, it's the last poem that I wrote. I'm pretty much the obsessive girlfriend when it comes to this poem; I read it every day, I check on it, I listen to it. The thought of running this poem by someone for feedback, or even just letting someone else read it scares me. This means that either it's a really damn good poem or it's a really damn bad poem. Being the optimistic sort that I am---I bet it's the latter.

I know a poem is gping to be good when I start bringing it in the car and letting it ride in the front seat. So, your poem sounds like it's going to be a humdinger.

Whenever I'm working on a poem that I think is going to be really good, it is always the poem that bumps and bumbles out right after that actually ends up being the poem I love. Weird, huh?

See, this is why I love reading poet-blogs. You say this and I'm sitting here thinking "YES! Thank god someone else is like this too!" I wonder if non-poets would find this strange -- but I just smile and think of the typed-out poem serving as a bookmark in my lunchtime-reading book, where I won't forget to check on it once or twice.
Thanks for posting this.
I'm pretty sure my poem/lovers are unfaithful little sluts. Thank god they wear fabulous shoes or they wouldn't be worth it.
Gosh, I do the same thing so often, especially when I feel like I'm starting a new project. I keep going back to it to check on it just like you said. Like I can't believe it's there. Weird, eh? I'm sure your poem is beautiful.
Hey, I do this, too, and I'm not a poet. But I can do it because everything I write is very short. Not sure what I would do if I was a regular short story writer. And that part about not wanting to show anyone, just enjoying it in its own private space? Been there. --Wyatt
Suzanne: The poem stalker in me wants to see this poem . . . now.

Hi Suzanne,
I think that's maybe the best time in writing a poem, the best feeling a poem can give -- when you're right in the midst of it and that one poem is everything. I love carrying around a fresh poem with that feeling....
I like your description of your relationship with the poem. Perhaps you might like "Inspiration" at my site. Good luck.
