Remember all the talk about how we need more readers for poetry? I'm down with that--as long as the readers are people I don't know. Unless, of course, they are readers I know & trust.
In other news--
The oriental poppies have opened, so has the mountain laurel, dianthus, rose campion, and yarrow. Let's not forget the roses. The white rose bush has blossoms so wide that morning finds drifts of white petals on the path and driveway. Yesterday, the yellow rose bush had a bud that promised to open today.
I grew two new poems this week, one I may actually keep, the other I'm sticking in a drawer so it will ripen. Contributor copies and proofs have been drifting in as well. Good stuff.

I know exactly how you feel. My future in-laws read my blog about a week ago. I was mortified. Between the admission of bisexuality, the erotic poetry, and my liberal use of the C-word, I thought for sure they'd be having a sit-down with their son about just what kind of girl he intended to marry. As it turned out they both complimented me on the writing, and Mom (while promising never to read the blog again without my permission) said she'd found the content really interesting. Who knew?
Don't close, Suzanne. That'd suck. :-(
Ginger, that's my worst nightmare come true! Your future IL's sound very cool. :-)
Ivy,
Denial has gotten me this far, I suppose it will get me a little farther, eh?...;-)
When I emceed the poetry on the buses party at the Seattle Art Museum last April, a woman (not a writer, but the wife of a writer) approached me and said when I found out you were judging this contest, I Googled you and found your blog and everything you've posted online. She didn't say it in a nice way either, but in a strangely accusatory way. It freaked me out. I've been freaked out ever since. Actually, I'm horrified by what I post on my blog and have been ever since I started. However, it's like reading trashy novels for me. I can't seem to stop.
Jeez. She must be one of those Bent About Bloggers people that pop up now and then. My blog is so silly, but it's the easiest way to have a community--I really adore some of the people I've met and/or have grown closer to as a result of blogging. And I'm not exactly in the mood to waddle around actively seeking to create a 'real life' community these days. And why not be silly? Life is hard enough.
That's very dark & very creepy, Cynthia, yet I do love this: 'If you have nothing to hide you have less to keep track of!' It's my new motto. *lolololol* xo
