Stolen from Cackling Jackal

Nancy Milford, the biographer of Edna St. Vincent Millay and Zelda Fitzgerald, once said in a lecture at Bennington (I'm paraphrasing), "Every great woman poet has been at least one of the following three things: Single, Childless or Crazy"

This made me laugh and laugh and laugh.

Uh, so we know what that makes you. But what does that make me?

Um, I'm all three. Right now.

So, um, what does that make me?

A poet with a capital P?

Well, at least now when people point at me in an accusatory or pitying way and aim that word spinster or that phrase old maid at me, I'll know how to respond. I'll pick myself up, brush myself, clear my throat and say:

I

am

a

Poet.

Then I'll cackle. Madly.

(grin)
