Besides

Erik Larson's engrossing, The Devil in the White City, and The Best American Short Stories, 1994, I've also had the great pleasure to have recently read--

Bramble, by Joseph Massey

What Remains, by Stuart Greenhouse

Playing Cards With Houdini, by Alex Stolis

and

Subject to Change, by Matthew Thorburn.

While very different in style, each of these collections gave me the feeling that I was in the presence of something, or that I was viewing someone on the verge of something. I can't express it clearly so I won't even try. I am most grateful to the blogging community for introducing me to so many new writers over the past year and damn, I have to say, there's a lot of kick-ass poets out there. A lot. Buy their books!
