I Know This Much is True, Wally Lamb (this book blew me away)
Loveliest Dead, byRay Garton (a paperback of the haunted house genre, reminded me what a sucker I am for a good haunted house read.) From his bio--
'...Garton often tells aspiring young writers who want to know what courses they should take in order to become writers, "Writing is not something you go to school to learn, it's something you drop out of school to do." He also lives with his wife and their eight (8!) cats.
Black Angel, by John Connolly. (Thiller genre. Hey, some people watch television, I read a few genre novels. Halfway done, this one's pretty good, a lot of great historical detail.)
Gilead, by Marilynne Robinson (just started)

I like John Connelly's writing very much--don't you think he could do with an American editor? The first time I ncountered "plimsolls," I was jolted.
Gilead is the best novel I've read since, well, Housekeeping. I think I'll go on a Robinson re-reading binge.
Thanks for reminding me of these two.
*LOL* He sure could.
