We've Joined
the masses and signed on with Netflix. In my queue: Walk the Line, Capote, The Libertine, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and Pirates of the Caribbean--something for everyone. Now, what do you recommend?

I really liked Crash, The Squid and the Whale, Good Night and Good Luck, and A History of Violence. If you don't mind subtitles, The Bicycle Thief will break your heart.
Amelie. Even if you mind subtitles, this movie will fill up your heart.
Birth. Even if you're reluctant to watch a movie about a woman who believes that a ten year old boy is her dead husband, this film will get under your skin and stay with you long after you're done watching it.
Breaking Away. So, it was made 25 years ago. So, what? If you want to see a movie that will make you want to stand up and cheer at the end and will have you humming Italian opera for days afterwards, watch this film. I promise, it will elate you.
Crossing Delancey. Another oldie but goodie. Dates back to the late 80's. If you want to see a sweet, pre-When Harry Met Sally romantic comedy, this is the ticket. Amy Irving plays a young, single woman in Manhattan who's fixed up on a date with the pickle man, played by Peter Riegert through her Jewish grandmother's matchmaker.
A little bit of everything. A movie that will touch your heart, a movie that will haunt you, a movie that will make you root for the underdog, and a movie that will make you believe that sometimes, love can be found in the most unexpected places.

And I have to second the Breaking Away recommendation only because it was filmed right here in my home town. :)

i read the book long before the movie, picked it up in new zealand in 1998. definitely recommended, too.
