Not to Brag

but my garden is spectacular this year. Well, maybe to brag, or maybe I'm just astounded at how well it has all come together -- finally, after all the digging and moving and mulching and coaxing and so much watching over the past six years -- truly spectacular. The Queen Elizabeth roses are budding, the bearded iris are blooming, so is the azalea, and the clematis has blooms the size of saucers. And the promise of more blooms appears everywhere. Deep violet trailing petunias are hanging from new baskets. The backyard shade garden has filled in -- I never thought it would. Never. White impatiens in the flower box and planters. The best part -- all I had to do was hang the baskets and plant the impatiens. Well, aside from planting some bulbs. This year I can just sit back and enjoy the show. Pretty amazing.

Your garden sounds sounds lovely. My front yard is about a year away from what you describe, my side garden about 2 years, and my backyard hopeless unless we haul in boulders for a rock garden or take up hydroponics (too wet, too shady otherwise but we have a world of wild strawberries). This is the year though, that daylilies should be spectacular. The first ones are the yield-yellow of new school buses. Harvey and I counted five hundred buds so far. I cannot wait for the June moon swoon bloom of them.

A garden is a wonderful place - and so necessary.

sounds fabulous. i especially love this: "finally, after all the digging and moving and mulching and coaxing and so much watching over the past six years" - like writing a book of poems!

Pam, I hope you post pics in June. It's so worth all the toil. I promise.

And Emmy, yes, exactly!
