Her Kind

I have gone out, a possessed witch,
haunting the black air, braver at night;
dreaming evil, I have done my hitch
over the plain houses, light by light:
lonely thing, twelve-fingered, out of mind.
A woman like that is not a woman, quite.
I have been her kind.

Oh how I love that poem! I had to take a Oral Interpretation class in college and we did a group project, presenting various types of literature...we did a "Woman" theme, and part of it was this poem. I read it aloud and the other gals chanted the "I have been her kind." Standing ovation, it was. Later, when I took a poetry class, we had to record some poems while the music department played in the background (violin, keyboard, synthesizer) and, again, I read this one.
