The lavender, the yarrow, the rose campion have all been cut back. The white lilies came and dazzled. This bed is almost a sea of green in July, the black-eyed susans are starting to bloom. The new roses are budding. The fern has almost taken over the front bed. The ditch lilies are still going, and the hosta is blooming as the phlox, as the sage, as the snowball bushes. July & the garden. Here I start to slack off, the heat makes it all seem too much like a chore and my clipping shears are dull, dull, dull. I hoped last night's storm -- a show of heat lightning and full of hard rain -- would have made for a cool morning, but it's already humid, sticky. Oh for a set of gills.

July & The Garden

All those names remind me of the flowers we used to have in Colorado. I don't even think I've heard the word "hosta" since moving down to Arizona. It's a completely different plant palate down here. Not a bad thing, of course.

I wish my garden looked like that when I started slacking! Our yard is a jungle, and the excess rain certainly doesn't help.

Those weeds love the rain don't they? I'm way behind on things and it's looking pretty reckless out there, so many, many weeds sprout up with every drop of rain.
